The illusion of university equality

Gender balance in academia, especially in leadership positions is a challenge, that should be addressed. Athena European University has initiated a lot actions (round table discussions) on the issues and under its immediate plans is the building of its gender balance unit.
 
ATHENA Talks, is happy to contribute on this priority (we aim the 50% of the positions in leadership positions to be given to female colleagues), and hosts this Friday, 9th of February at 12:00 CET, Ms Mar Fernandez Cendon from the gender Balance unit of the University of Vigo (Spain). Smart Cities Applications

The 1st Athena European University Alumni Talk will take place on the 30th of January 2024 at 15:30 CET. We will host the Ελληνικό Μεσογειακό Πανεπιστήμιο – Hellenic Mediterranean University graduate student Mr. Nikolaos Felessakis, who will talk about Smart Cities Applications. Nikolaos is a ΙΝΝΤΕΝΕΤ Managing Director in Greece.
 
Nikolaos Felessakis is a seasoned Business Developer with 15 years of experience in the Energy and IoT industry. He is well-known for his expertise in project and product management. As the Managing Director in a System Integrator for the Automation Industry, he has accomplished groundbreaking achievements. He has led the design and delivery of the 1st Smart Parking Project in Cyprus, a massive undertaking valued at 1M€. He managed the implementation of over 3,100 sensors based on the LoRaWAN network, which has contributed to positioning Pafos Municipality as a Smart Tourist Destination for 2023 and established his reputation in the IoT sector.
 
Nikolaos has consistently exceeded sales targets and fostered partnerships worldwide through his commitment to innovation, strategic market analysis, and effective bid management. His journey is marked by achievements such as winning the Cyprus Digital Championship and representing Cyprus at the Conference of Cooperative Innovation Network in Egypt, reflecting his dedication to pushing boundaries in Innovation systems.

Electrically driven organic laser using integrated OLED pumping

Athena European University Talks, we are very happy to welcome Professor Graham Turnbull from the University of St. Andrews in the UK.
 
Professor Turnbull participated as principal investigator in a breakthrough in physics: electrically driven organic lasers. This research has been published in Nature, “Electrically driven organic laser using integrated OLED pumping,” Nature 621, 746 (2023).

The Foresight Way of Thinking

The ATHENA Talks of the Athena European University continue this Thursday (21st of December) at 12:00 CET. The topic will be the FORESIGHT way of thinking.
 
The Talk will be delivered by Ms. Denise Wornig from CUAS, an Associate partner of our Alliance.
 
“Foresight” generally refers to the ability to predict or plan for future events based on current and past information. It involves anticipating potential developments and outcomes, allowing individuals or organizations to prepare effectively. Foresight is crucial in various fields, such as business, where it aids in strategic planning and risk management, and in governance, where it assists in policy-making and long-term societal planning. It combines elements of forecasting, scenario planning, and strategic analysis. The effectiveness of foresight relies on accurate data interpretation, understanding trends, and the capacity to envision possible future scenarios.
