The ATHENA Co-Creation Hub continues its mission, serving as a creative initiative. It allows FabLabs, makerspaces, and Design Factories from the ATHENA Alliance to open their creative workshops for joint projects and collaboration.

The shared working spaces within the Co-Creation Hub provide access to instructional content and state-of-the-art equipment, including 3D printers, laser cutting machines, CNC routers, and plotters. Let’s explore the latest initiatives offered by the ATHENA Co-Creation Hub.

New Virtual Production Studio in Lithuania

VILNIUS TECH “LinkMenų fabrikas,” the only co-creation space of its kind in Lithuania, introduces a groundbreaking project — the country’s first virtual production studio, “Faux Real Studio.” Now open, this studio will offer services essential for the creation of films or commercials.

“VILNIUS TECH “Faux Real Studio” will provide virtual production services to the film, music, advertising, and television industries. It will also serve as a novel space for education, welcoming specialists skilled in the latest virtual production technologies, or those willing to learn about them,” says Dr. Lina Pečiūrė, Director of VILNIUS TECH “LinkMenų fabrikas.”

Embracing Sustainability

This spring, VILNIUS TECH is also planning to open the Sustainability Hub. Aimed at consolidating interdisciplinary scientific competencies to create advanced sustainable solutions and lead positive societal change. The centre’s establishment was motivated by the project “Creation of the Integrated Sustainability Technologies Laboratory at VILNIUS TECH,” funded by the Economic Recovery and Resilience Plan “Next Generation Lithuania” and the budget of the Republic of Lithuania.

The centre will feature laboratories for demonstration activities and spaces for both traditional and remote learning, where individuals can deepen their theoretical knowledge and practical skills in various sustainability activities and technologies.

Introducing X-LABS at the University of Orleans

The University of Orleans presents X-LABS, a comprehensive suite of educational tools being implemented as part of the MINERVE project, supported by France 2030. X-LABS integrates existing structures and a new ‘central’ hub comprising the FABLAB, FACLAB, and SIMLAB, facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration among students, engineers, and professors within its academic partners.

The diverse components of X-LABS—including FABLAB, FACLAB, WEBLAB, GEODATALAB, SIMLAB, MOTORLAB, and ECODATALAB—are designed to foster innovation and learning across various fields. From digital and multimedia production in FACLAB supervised by audiovisual engineers, to environmental data projects in GEODATALAB, and biomechanical analysis in MOTORLAB, X-LABS is setting a new standard for educational excellence and interdisciplinary research.

“Co-Creation Hub” serves as an expansive network of diverse ecosystems on an international scale. It provides a platform where students, industry professionals, and various stakeholders can readily access resources and support to transform their ideas into reality. Additionally, the hub fosters knowledge exchange and collaboration among distinct participants within the innovation ecosystem, including researchers, investors, and industry experts. These individuals contribute their insights and expertise to assist students and startups associated with the ATHENA Alliance in their growth and success.

As a result, it creates an ideal environment for the development of collaborative programs, hackathons, joint projects, and numerous opportunities for the ATHENA community to thrive. Stay tuned for more exciting news about the ATHENA Co-Creation Hub initiatives!
