Last week, the VILNIUS TECH Sustainability HUB launched the “Life Cycle Thinking” online course, extending invitations to ATHENA students, their peers from other universities, and all who are passionate about sustainability. This course, the second to be organised by the Sustainability HUB, was designed to engage participants from VILNIUS TECH as well as from universities around the globe.
The course kicked off on April 8th and will run for eight weeks. Participants are set to deepen their understanding of lifecycle thinking, which examines the environmental, social, and economic impacts of a product or service from its inception through to its disposal or recycling. This comprehensive approach attracts a diverse group of learners, eager to explore these complex interactions.
Enrollment has been robust, with registrations from all over the world, including ATHENA students from institutions such as VILNIUS TECH in Lithuania, the Polytechnic Institute of Porto in Portugal, Hellenic Mediterranean University in Greece, the University of Maribor in Slovenia, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and Lviv Polytechnic National University in Ukraine. The course has also drawn participants from RTU Liepaja Academy in Latvia and Kyiv National University of Food Technologies in Ukraine.
As the course progresses, participants will blend theoretical knowledge with practical tasks. They will conduct actual research on various sustainability topics, providing them with a hands-on learning experience. Several enthusiastic students have already selected their topics for presentation, including:
- A comparative study of paper and digital books.
- An analysis of the lifecycle differences between single-use paper bags and reusable cotton bags.
- An evaluation of reusable containers made from recycled plastic or those that are recyclable.
At the conclusion of the course, the most exemplary projects will be showcased to the VILNIUS TECH community and featured on VILNIUS TECH Sustainability HUB’s social media platforms.
