On January 17, 2025, the Executive Board of the ATHENA University Alliance convened in Lecce to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the University of Salento. This momentous occasion was marked by a festive inauguration event, featuring a keynote address by H.E. Sergio Mattarella, President of the Republic of Italy. In his speech, President Mattarella emphasized the University of Salento’s vital role in advancing regional development and fostering international collaboration.
The anniversary celebration provided ATHENA partners with a unique opportunity to strengthen ties with the University of Salento’s extensive network. Participants engaged with members of the Italian Rectors’ Conference (CRUI), prominent business leaders, and international partners, setting the stage for future collaborations that will enhance and expand the ATHENA ecosystem.
Following the celebration, the ATHENA Executive Board held a strategic meeting to outline its 2025 action plan. Prof. Zdravko Kačič, Rector of the University of Maribor and President of ATHENA, reflected on the discussions, stating:
“ATHENA is setting its KPIs for the upcoming period while staying true to our jointly adopted mission. Our gathering at the University of Salento’s 70th anniversary reaffirmed our commitment to the future ATHENA university campus.”
