The University of Orléans is organizing a BIP (Blended Intensive Programme) in Digital Environmental Geosciences

ATHENA BIP

The University of Orléans invites Master’s and PhD students from Erasmus+ partner higher education institutions to apply for the fourth edition of the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) in Digital Environmental Geosciences, taking place in January 2027.

The programme focuses on Water Resources, Energy Resources, Mining Resources and Pollution Mitigation (WEMP). It introduces participants to digital methods and simulation techniques used to study environmental processes and address real-world challenges.

Programme details

  • Physical mobility: 11–15 January 2027
  • Location: Orléans, France
  • Virtual component: Online collaborative group project activities later in the semester
  • Credits: 3 ECTS
  • Maximum number of participants: 30
  • Application deadline: 25 October 2026

Who can apply?

The programme is open to Master’s and PhD students from Erasmus+ higher education institutions studying:

  • Information Technology (IT)
  • Geology
  • Engineering
  • Fluid Mechanics
  • Geography
  • Physics

What does the programme offer?

Participants will be introduced to four simulation techniques widely used in environmental geosciences:

  • Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
  • Digital Rock Physics and Microfluids (DRP & MF)
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
  • Reactive Transport Modeling (RTM)

Morning seminars led by international experts from academia and industry will demonstrate how these techniques are applied to real-world systems. The programme will also include intercultural activities in Orléans and the surrounding region.

The on-site activities will take place at Hotel Dupanloup in central Orléans, with the final day hosted at the Observatory of Sciences of the Universe of Orléans (OSUC).

Funding and participation requirements

Erasmus+ funding to support travel expenses may be available through students’ home institutions. Interested students are advised to contact their local International Office for information about funding opportunities and eligibility.

Participation in both the physical and virtual components is mandatory. Students who fail to attend either component or miss the examination will not receive the 3 ECTS credits and may be required by the host institution to reimburse their Erasmus+ funding.

How to apply?

Applications must be submitted by 25 October 2026.
