As part of the Treaty of Friendship between France and Spain signed in January 2023, the French Embassy in Spain and the French Institute organized, on Monday 22nd May, a Franco-Spanish conference around European Universities.
Among the speakers were invited Vanessa Debiais-Sainton, head of the Higher Education Unit at the European Commission, Joan Subirats, Minister of Universities in Spain and Jacques Comby, in charge of European Universities for the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research.
During the day, four roundtables were organised on various topics with guest speakers from several alliances and institutions:
· Internationalisation of alliances toward Africa and Latin America.
The panelists focused on how to create links with these strategic areas and involve them in our alliances as well as the relevance of a strategy outside Europe in the current global context.
· Research in alliances
The main points mentioned were the importance of the support from quality assurance agencies but also the lack of to sustain our actions.
· Joint degrees, accreditation and the European label
A few alliances shared the way they set up their joint degrees and the obstacles that remain to overcome to make them successful
· Internal and external communication of alliances
Through concrete examples from the institutional point of view and good practices of storytelling from two alliances, the panel delved into the visual identity and key elements that make communication efficient in the context of alliances.
The representatives from the University of Vigo and the University of Orléans benefitted from the political and strategic discussions and exchanged good practices with peers from other alliances.
