Overview:

On August 15, 2024, Zambeze University’s Faculty of Agrarian Sciences will host a pivotal webinar focused on “Availability and Access to Certified Common Bean Seeds in Mozambique: Challenges and Perspectives.” The event will be moderated by Dr. Paulino B. Sandramo and features key experts from various agrarian and academic institutions. The webinar will be conducted in Portuguese.

Key Speaker:

  • Eng. Custodio Jorge from the Agricultural Research Institute of Mozambique (IIAM) will lead the discussion as the main speaker, bringing insights from ongoing research and development efforts in the agricultural sector.

This event is the culmination of the work developed during the first edition of the BlendEd course in Africa, which took place during the 2023/24 academic year. The course, involving 12 students from universities across Uganda, Nigeria, and Mozambique, provided an innovative platform for cross-border collaboration. The participating universities included Makerere and Soroti Universities in Uganda, the Federal University of Technology Minna, and the University of Nigeria Nsukka in Nigeria, and Eduardo Mondlane and Zambeze Universities in Mozambique.

Project Background:

The Seeds Bank team, a group of six students from the participating universities, tackled a challenge proposed by IIAM, focusing on the impact of limited access to improved seed varieties on agricultural productivity in Mozambique. The team members—Osvaldo Paulo Pessuro, Marcia Marcelo Mucache, Monge Macklyne, Goodness Onuchukwu, Bongo Joshua, and Glory Napolion—were coached by Dr. Paulino Sandramo throughout the course.
