An opportunity under the ATHENAWORKS project
UMCS has been awarded funding under the NAWA programme “Support for European Universities” for the project “UMCS 4 ATHENA PLUS – Strengthening UMCS International Cooperation within the ATHENA Consortium” (ATHENAWORKS). The project aims to strengthen academic cooperation, joint educational activities, and staff mobility within the ATHENA consortium.
Visiting Professors
Starting from the summer semester 2026, UMCS plans to invite two visiting professors from ATHENA partner universities to deliver courses within the ATHENAWORKS project framework. One of the planned courses will be offered by the Faculty of Economics and is outlined below.
Course details
- Study programme: Business Analytics & Data Science (Master’s level, Year 2)
- Course title: Analytical Thinking in Business Decision-Making
Course description
The course aims to develop students’ ability to apply analytical thinking when solving business problems and making managerial decisions. It focuses on data interpretation, drawing valid conclusions, and supporting management processes through logical reasoning and evidence-based arguments.
- Workload: 60 teaching hours
- Format: fully online (synchronous), taught in English, combined with a two-week on-site visit at UMCS
- Teaching period: summer semester, starting on 25 February 2026, with classes conducted for 4 teaching hours per week, in accordance with the academic calendar
Responsibilities of the visiting professor
- preparing an original course sylabus
- delivering the full course
- providing digital teaching and learning materials
- conducting online classes using the teaching platform indicated by UMCS
- participating in intensive teaching activities and academic collaboration during the on-site visit at UMCS
Remuneration and eligibility
Remuneration is provided for teaching activities carried out within the ATHENAWORKS project.
Eligibility criteria
Candidates should hold a doctoral degree and have at least five years of academic teaching experience, preferably in one or more of the following areas: business analytics, data analytics, management sciences, economics, statistics, computer science, applied mathematics, or related disciplines.
