Prof. Angeliki N. Menegaki Visits the Faculty of Economics at UMCS

The Faculty of Economics at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University had the pleasure of hosting prof. Angeliki N. Menegaki from Hellenic Mediterranean University in Greece within the Visiting Professor Programme implemented under the project “UMCS 4 ATHENA PLUS – Strengthening International Cooperation of UMCS in the ATHENA Consortium” (ATHENAWORKS).

Discussion on Educational Development and Internationalization

A key event during the visit was a meeting devoted to the quality of education, internationalization, and the development of study programmes offered by the Faculty of Economics. The meeting was attended by prof. Tomasz Kijek, Deputy Director of the Institute of Economics and Finance and Programme Director of the Economics study programme, prof. Paweł Pasierbiak, Deputy Director of the Doctoral School of Social Sciences and Programme Director of the International Economic Relations study programme, dr Anna Tatarczak, Programme Director of the Business Analytics and Data Science study programme, and prof. Angeliki N. Menegaki.

The discussion focused on the study programmes Business Analytics and Data Science, Economics, and International Economic Relations. Participants exchanged experiences concerning innovative teaching methods, practical competencies development, project-based learning, and adaptation of study programmes to contemporary labour market needs. Particular attention was devoted to strengthening international cooperation, sustainability issues, and increasing student engagement through interactive educational approaches. Prof. Angeliki N. Menegaki positively evaluated students’ analytical and technical competencies, especially in the areas of machine learning and international economic education, while also sharing recommendations concerning further programme development and innovative teaching practices implemented at Greek universities.

Guest Lecture

During her visit, Prof. Menegaki delivered a lecture entitled “The Construction of a Proxy for Sustainable GDP in Environmental Economics”. The lecture addressed key issues in environmental economics and sustainable development, focusing on methods of measuring sustainable economic growth and the role of alternative economic indicators in contemporary economic analysis.

The visit confirmed the strong potential for further scientific and didactic cooperation within the ATHENA consortium and contributed to the exchange of international good practices in higher education.
