Strengthening ATHENA Alliance Partnership

VGTU-UMCS visit

Cooperation and partnership between ATHENA alliance members, the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, continue to grow. Representatives of the VILNIUS TECH Faculty of Creative Industries—Dean Prof. Dr. Vaida Asakavičiūtė and Vice-Dean for Studies Assoc. Prof. Dr. Robertas Leščinskij—visited ATHENA alliance partners in Poland at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) and met with representatives of the Institute of Communication and Media Studies and the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism.

The visit aimed to strengthen strategic academic cooperation and develop joint initiatives in the fields of studies and research. Both institutions discussed the main directions of long-term collaboration within the ATHENA alliance network. Significant emphasis was placed on implementing a double degree study programme, expanding student and staff mobility, developing a cooperation model for PhD students, and initiating joint research and international study projects (Blended Intensive Programmes). UMCS representatives were invited to join the VILNIUS TECH international BIP project “Summer Media Studio: Cinematic Storytelling”, which will take place in Neringa, Lithuania, in 2026.

The meeting between VILNIUS TECH and the University of Maria Curie-Skłodowska once again confirmed the ATHENA alliance partners’ shared goal of building a strong European higher education and research ecosystem grounded in international collaboration, fostering innovation, knowledge exchange, and academic synergy.
