On 8 and 9 October, the University of Orléans will host several key moments for the ATHENA European University, including the handover of the Alliance’s presidency from the University of Orléans to the University of Siegen.
The handover on Thursday 8 October will mark the beginning of a new chapter for ATHENA, as the University of Siegen takes over the presidency of the Alliance and continues the work carried out under the leadership of the University of Orléans.
The following day, Friday 9 October, will focus on the future of research in Europe, with the seminar “Shaping the Future of Research in Europe: partnerships, funding and impact”, taking place at the Hôtel Dupanloup in Orléans.
Shaping the Future of Research in Europe
From 9:00 to 12:30, the seminar will bring together stakeholders from the higher education and research communities to discuss key issues shaping European research today.
The morning will open with a presentation on the ATHENA experience, followed by discussions on building sustainable European partnerships, European research funding and the green transition, and approaches to making transformation visible and assessing its impact within European initiatives.
The seminar will provide an opportunity to exchange perspectives and experiences on European research cooperation and to reflect on how partnerships, funding and evaluation can contribute to the transformation of the European Research Area.
External participants are welcome to attend the morning seminar and can register online.
Doctor Honoris Causa ceremonies
The programme will continue in the afternoon with the Doctor Honoris Causa ceremonies of the University of Orléans.
Three international colleagues will be awarded an honorary doctorate on this occasion: Ermanno Calzolaio, Peter Haring Bolivar and Petra Reinke. The ceremonies will include the presentation of the laureates, the laudatio and their respective lectures, followed by a closing address.
Through these events, ATHENA will bring together academic and research communities around the future of European research, while marking the transition to a new phase of the Alliance’s presidency.
