Intensive Course in Smart Cities

The International Relations Office of the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) in collaboration with the Strategic Partnership Project ‘Critical Skills of Electronic Engineer of 2020’ (CRETE) and the European University Advanced Technology Higher Education Network Alliance (ATHENA) organised a School in Smart Cities & Technologies. The school takes place within the framework of the 8th Erasmus Week that the Department of Electronic Engineering of the HMU hosts. The speakers in this school come from both Academia and Industry. The aims of the school are the following:  

 

  • To introduce to the public (scholars, students, local society administration, general public) what smart is and what does it envision  
  • To present some of the disruptive smart technologies that will facilitate the transition from a traditional city to the city of the next century  
  • To be aware of technologies and services a smart city will leverage  
  • To present good examples of Smart Cities 

 

The school also presents some key soft skills a citizen of a smart city should have e.g. time management, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking. On the final day of the school, cultural presentations regarding the history and culture of Crete will be presented by experts. In addition, all the participants from International Relations Offices will be able to present their activities on the same day The school refers to Scholars, students and any citizen who would like to learn about the next era of a city. A certificate of attendance will be given to all the participants. The students will pass the final day exams (an oral presentation of a technology related to smart technology, a certificate related to three ECTS will be awarded) The participants who would like to travel to Chania, Crete for their participation in this event are more than welcome. They can use the Erasmus classic mobility funds (in case you have a bilateral agreement with HMU). However, due to the COVID-19 situation, they are strongly advised to take all the safety measures during their online presentation from the facilities of HMU or their hotel facilities.
