Exploring the industry of Rome and the Lazio region

Company visit at Sensor Medica

Having the academia in contact and cooperation with industry increases the diversity of knowledge among industry and academia. In addition to that, it potentially increases innovation dissemination, too. Within this framework, representatives of the nine ATHENA partners met in Rome on 2 May 2023. The goal of this meeting was to gain insights into the industrial ecosystem in Rome and the region of Lazio.

Starting the day at UNICUSANO

The day started at UNICUSANO (Niccolò Cusano University Rome) with two presentations held by Prof. Oliviero Giannini and Prof. Stefano Guarino, both from UNICUSANO. These presentations aimed at introducing the academic and research activities carried out at the university. After that, three local companies showed their initiatives performed in a synergic approach with UNICUSANO, moderated by Eng. Gennaro Ponticelli. More specifically, they discussed medical aspects, smart mobility, and ecological vehicles optimisation. During their presentations, all three companies highlighted the strong interaction between academia and industry. The presentations provided the opportunity for a fruitful discussion about improvements and further cooperation, with the goal of strengthening the ATHENA consortium.

Visit to Sensor Medica

The second part of the day’s programme took place in Guidonia, an urban environment in the proximity of Rome, where several small- and medium-sized companies are located. The 20 international guests visited the company Sensor Medica and learned about its main ideas and R&D activities.

We strongly believe that academia – industry links improve the conditions for innovation dissemination and boost collaborative activities in innovation networks. Thus, the kick-off of relations between ATHENA partners and regional industry in Italy may have an important growth in the near future.
