In early October, the Erasmus Mundus Master’s Programme EMINENT (Embedded Intelligence Nanosystems Engineering), a flagship initiative of ATHENA European University, officially began with the Welcome Days at Hellenic Mediterranean University. This marked the start of a two-year academic journey for the first cohort of students, offering cutting-edge nanotechnology education across multiple leading European universities.
The EMINENT Programme: A Collaborative Milestone in Nanotechnology Education
The EMINENT programme brings together four ATHENA member universities—University of Siegen (Germany), University of Orléans (France), Hellenic Mediterranean University (Greece), and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (Lithuania)—with NOVA University Lisbon (Portugal) as an external partner. This Erasmus Mundus Master’s programme provides students with a unique opportunity to study at different universities, gaining in-depth knowledge in nanotechnology, IoT, and cyber-physical systems.
Welcome Days at Hellenic Mediterranean University
The first semester of the programme kicked off with the Welcome Days in early October at Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) in Greece. Students were introduced to the world of functional nanomaterials while making their first connections with peers, lecturers, and researchers.
The two-day event featured a tour of the Nano-HMU Research Group’s laboratories, giving students a close-up view of the university’s state-of-the-art facilities. On the second day, each partner university presented their specialised study tracks, and students met with local coordinators who would guide them through their academic journeys.
Next Steps for EMINENT Students
Following their first semester in Greece, students will move to Universität Siegen in Germany for their second semester, where the focus will shift to sensors, sensor devices, and embedded systems. The programme continues across various universities, offering diverse knowledge areas and hands-on research opportunities.
