CERN Turns 70: ATHENA Alumni Shares Life at the World’s Leading Research Center

4

This year, CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, celebrates its 70th anniversary. Over the past seven decades, CERN has become synonymous with scientific breakthroughs that have reshaped our understanding of the universe—from the discovery of the Higgs boson to the development of the World Wide Web.

In honor of this milestone, ATHENA European University is revisiting an insightful interview by ATHENA Alumni Talks with Dr. Konstantinos Papastergiou, an ATHENA alumnus who now works as a Power Electronics Engineer at CERN. Dr. Papastergiou offers a unique perspective on life at CERN and his role in pioneering cutting-edge technologies that power the Large Hadron Collider and other groundbreaking projects.

His journey from ATHENA to CERN showcases the strong link between academic excellence and professional achievement. Dr. Papastergiou’s work contributes directly to CERN’s mission to explore fundamental questions about the universe, such as the nature of dark matter and antimatter.

As CERN continues to lead the world in scientific research, we are proud to see ATHENA alumni like Dr. Papastergiou playing an essential role in this renowned institution.
