The ATHENA European University Alliance, under the coordination of the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) and its International Relations Office, continues the ATHENA Talks series, bringing together researchers, academics, and students to exchange scientific knowledge and foster international collaboration.
On Friday, 30 October 2026, ATHENA Talks will welcome two researchers from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland, presenting their latest research within the ATHENA Sustainable Production Cluster.
The two presentations will explore the role of microorganisms in plant adaptation to environmental stress, highlighting their significance for biodiversity, sustainable agriculture, and climate resilience.
Programme
10:00–10:20 CET | Jagoda Szydło
Genomic Insights into Plant Growth-Promoting Bacterial Endophytes and Their Role in Poaceae under Salinity Stress
The presentation will explore how beneficial bacteria living within plants can promote growth and improve tolerance to salinity stress, offering valuable insights into sustainable agricultural practices.
10:30–10:50 CET | Debosmita Chakraborty
Salinity and Climate Shape Bacterial Diversity and Composition in the Halophyte Salicornia europaea across Europe
This talk will examine how environmental conditions influence bacterial communities associated with salt-tolerant plants, contributing to our understanding of microbial biodiversity and ecosystem adaptation.
Why Participate?
ATHENA Talks provide an open platform for scientific dialogue, interdisciplinary exchange, and international networking. Participants will have the opportunity to discover emerging research, engage with researchers, and explore potential collaborations within the ATHENA European University community.
