The University of Wrocław hosted the third edition of the European University Alliances Forum, which took place on June 12–13, 2025, at the University Library. Representatives of our university also participated in the event, representing the ATHENA+ European University consortium.

The event was held under the Patronage of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union and brought together representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament, academia, and members of 73 alliances, representing over 570 universities from across Europe.

The ATHENA+ consortium, to which UMCS belongs, was represented by:

  • Wiesław I. Gruszecki– Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation
  • Diana Szczepańska– from the International Cooperation Center

Key issues discussed during the Forum included the functioning of university alliances and their impact on the transformation of the European Higher Education Area. Topics addressed in the meetings included shared challenges, good practices within the European Universities Initiative (EUI), and the future of education – including the concept of the Joint European Degree and the Union of Skills initiative aimed at fostering the development of future-oriented competencies. Special attention was also given to long-term funding for EUI, collaboration between universities and the socio-economic environment, and the promotion of innovation. The Forum was complemented by networking and integration activities, including a concert by the International Student Orchestra of the University of Wrocław and a student and alliance member networking session in the green area outside the University Library.
