Advancing inclusive education through International Sign
InSign "Advancing inclusive education through International Sign" has established an innovative infrastructure to promote the communication between deaf and non-deaf as well as among international deaf students using International Sign. The InSign project transferred innovative research results and put them to the service of the European community. The outcomes: – An automatic translator from several European languages to International Sign being represented by a 3D avatar – A certified course on International Sign and a MOOC addressed to the deaf and non-deaf that want to learn a simple sign language – An E-book published in five European languages describing the main aspects of IS as a globalized lingua franca
Sign Language Dictionary of Technical Terms for Education
The purpose of the TechWhiz project was to advance inclusive higher education by tearing down the barriers that deaf students face when coming across new concepts that have no corresponding sign language sign, thus requiring an explanation for a swift takeover of new knowledge in a specific study field. TechWhiz aimed to assist deaf students gaining equal access to education and enhance their learning experience. The specific objectives of the project were: – develop an online semi-automatic platform to dynamically create, maintain and search a glossary providing explanations of technical or scientific terms in national sign languages, – deploy a version of a glossary for the study fields of Information Technologies and Electrical Engineering in the partners’ sign languages (Portuguese, German, Slovenian and Greek sign languages), – empower new non-expert users to understand and effectively use the TechWhiz platform.
